SURF LESSONS

Originally the sport of royalty, surfing is thought to have made its way to Hawaii from the Polynesian Islands around the middle of the 18th Century but, it’s likely been around since the 6th Century.

Surfing has come a long way since it first gained popularity as a lifestyle symbol in the mid 1800's, and you too can enjoy the sport of royalty on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

If you have never surfed and you’re looking for something fun and exciting to try, or if you have been surfing for many years and you’re committed to improving you have come to the right place.

Lessons run for a duration of 2hrs and they are suitable for all levels from ages 8yrs+ on a private individual basis or in private groups of up to eight students. Equipment can be provided at no extra cost or you’re welcome to bring your own. Surf lessons are held at any main surf spot on the Isle of Wight depending on student skill level and surf conditions.

Our beginner lessons are run in waist-depth water. Our goal is for everyone to be up and riding by the end of their first lesson. Sometimes it can take a little longer but, that’s ok as everyone’s individual fitness and ability is different, which is why we pride ourselves in offering a bespoke person centred approach.

We use the highest quality equipment sourced from our local surf shop Earth, Wind and Water therefore; if you liked the equipment you used in one of our sessions go check them out. https://www.earthwindwater.co.uk

If you already surf:

Having a professional coach guide and analyse your surfing, encouraging you to make constructive changes will have a productive effect to help you achieve your desired results.

There are various ways that we coach surfers, for example observation and dynamic feedback, buddy surfing, in water coaching, video analysis and land based technique training.

For us it’s all about enabling you to surf better with confidence and bridge the gap from where your surfing is to where you want it to be. While ensuring your knowledge of ocean safety and surfing etiquette is increased.

SURF SKATE LESSONS

A surf skate is a skateboard used for surfing on land, a specially designed front truck enables you to do turns very similar to surfing. Surf Skating has become a sport in its own right and it’s ok if you don’t surf as it is fun to learn.

A surf skate can be pumped along a surface without having to push off with your foot to generate speed. This feeling is like surfing and it’s generally not possible to achieve on traditional skateboards. You can turn in a tight radius or slalom between obstacles.

If there are no waves or in between sessions, surf skating is a very constructive teaching method used to improve your technique and add manoeuvres to your repertoire.

Lessons are for a duration of 2hrs and are suitable for ages 12yrs+ on an individual basis or for private groups up to six students. We offer tuition for all levels and equipment can be provided or you’re welcome to bring your own. Lessons are held in a quiet closed road depending on weather conditions.

VIDEO ANALYSIS

It is a fantastic coaching tool, as it allows us to show you exactly what is happening. This enables us to incorporate changes that radically improve your technique, performance and increase your repertoire.

If you are serious about improving, video analysis coaching sessions are extremely effective in achieving your desired results.

Video Analysis coaching is suitable for novice to competitive level surfers, on an individual basis or for private groups of up to six students. Sessions are for a duration 3hrs, held at any main surf spot on the Isle of Wight depending on student skill level and surf conditions.

For progressing surfers, it is incredibly important to see yourself on screen regularly; there is also an option for you to be filmed (without receiving coaching) and keep the footage to look at in your own time.

ABOUT ME

At the age of thirteen a gentleman who had just been watching me and my friends surf, asked us to teach his children how to surf while they were on holiday from Germany and ever since then I’ve been following my passion for surf coaching.

Originally from South Africa, as a South African Team Member I surfed competitively on a national and international level. I competed in many events over the years. I am proud to of gained a wealth of experience and knowledge.

While living and competing in Australia I qualified as an ISA Level 2 Surf Coach before moving to the UK where I progressed to a Level 4 BSA Surf Coach and flat water SUP Coach.

My experience as a competitive surfer and in-depth training as an advanced surf coach has enabled me to develop a progressive approach for evaluating a surfer's technique, style, performance and ability. I apply this to help students develop and improve by using a bespoke person centred approach.

Combining my skill, experience, training and passion I provide Surf, Surf Skate and Stand up Paddleboard lessons on the Isle of Wight.

Although all the tuition is provided by me, I often use words like we and us. That’s because my awesome Wife Sadie is a co-founder, as a Business Graduate she’s very involved behind the scenes and at times in the day to day running of events.

Sharing our love for Blue Health and helping people have fun and achieve their dreams, is our dream and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.

Best wishes,

Eddie and Sadie

FAQ

The Answers You Need

HOW LONG ARE LESSONS?

Surfing/ surf skate lessons last for 2hr  Paddleboarding 3hrs

WHERE DO YOU MEET FOR LESSONS?

We meet in Hanover car park. We have a big white van so you can’t miss us! Meet us there 10 minutes before your lesson so we can get some paperwork all filled out and then we can get you suited and equipped ready for surfing!

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS NO WAVES/BAD WEATHER?

We keep a constant eye on the surf forecast and aim to anticipate ‘flat days’ in advance. We will always attempt to move your activity date or provide a paddleboard session in replace of any cancelled surfing lesson.

ARE WET SUITS AND SURFBOARDS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

Yes, all the equipment you need is provided as part of the lesson prices.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

All you need to bring with you is your swimming costume to go underneath the wetsuit that we provide, and a towel to get dry with at the end.

WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES LIKE?

There is an ice cream van for refreshments, (still in the car park) and there are public toilets.

I HAVE MEDICATION WITH ME, WHERE CAN I PUT THEM WHILST I’M HAVING MY LESSON?

When we go down to the beach for every lesson, we take with us a 'rescue bag'. Inside this bag we keep a few emergency first aid essentials and spares for boards. If you have medication that needs to be kept close by then it can be kept in this bag.

COVID19

We’re following all government guidelines and have been actively involved in scoping out industry best practice in partnership with key outdoor industry bodies and specialists.
